She drives change – inspiring future transport industry workers

Women remain underrepresented in the transport sector, accounting for only 26 per cent of transportation industry workers in the UK (Source: ONS, Workforce jobs series via Nomis).

The Women In Transport event provided an opportunity for women in Belfast to meet industry experts and participate in insightful discussions on career pathways for the transit sector.

Through engaging roundtable discussions, a CV review station and networking opportunities, representatives from Vix Technology, Translink, WOMEN’STEC and Harlequins Women’s rugby union club shared their advice and advocated for gender equality to help increase the number of women working in transport.

Event Highlights

The day started with a welcome and opening remarks from Vix’s Kerry Walker and Sue Walnut, Translink’s Ruth Mulholland, Kerry Meadowcroft and Donna Carson Reid, and Harlequins Lucy Elliott.

Roundtable discussions

Splitting off into smaller groups, it was a great opportunity for attendees to open up and engage in group conversations – listening to each other’s experiences, sharing career aspirations, and exchanging ideas and advice.

CV review station

Recruiters often spend very little time looking at individual CV’s when candidate screening, so it’s essential to write a CV that highlights your relevant skills and experience for a particular role.

Vix’s Matt Wilks lent his expertise to participants, providing advice and tips to writing CV’s that stand out to employers in the transit and technology industry.

Career pathway stand

As one of Northern Ireland’s largest employers, Translink is a diverse company with excellent job opportunities spanning a range of levels and specialisms.

The Translink team was available to discuss the wide number of work areas they cover, including Infrastructure and Projects, Rail or Bus Customer Services or Operations, Engineering, Human Resources, Legal Services, Procurement, IT, Finance and Marketing and PR.

Working together we can support women’s potential and promote a diverse and inclusive workforce. A big thank you to all those who attended and contributed to this important conversation!
