December 2016, London - Vix Technology, the global provider of integrated transit fare
collection and passenger information systems, has been shortlisted for ‘most innovative
customer serving operator or technology provider’ at the Transport Ticketing Global
awards in London, for its work with delivering contactless payment technology to
Stagecoach buses in Oxfordshire, UK.
Providing the first major use of contactless payment technology on buses outside of
London, the retail model underpinning the award-nominated system provides a genuine
cash alternative to transport operators, without needing to artificially manipulate fares –
providing unique benefits over the capital’s flat fare scheme.
The award category celebrates the transport operator and/or technology partner that
has launched, scaled or executed an exciting smart mobility programme which has
positively changed how passengers interact with public transport.
The ticket machines already rolled out onboard Stagecoach buses enable the purchase
of smart products on the bus, using contactless credit or debit cards, as well as Apple
Pay or Android Pay, for no additional charge, making it easier than ever for passengers
to catch the bus.
The first stage of the project launched in Oxfordshire earlier this year, with contactless
payments now live on all of Stagecoach’s 180 buses in the country, already increasing
passenger numbers and a higher revenue share for the operator. Vix is working with
Stagecoach to equip the remainder of their fleet by 2018, rolling out cEMV payments on
all 7,200 regional buses in England, Scotland and Wales, benefiting both major urban
areas and rural and island communities alike.
The awards ceremony will take place on the 24 January at Landing Forty Two, in the
heart of London. The Awards take place alongside the Transport Ticketing Global
conference - the largest global gathering of transport ticketing professionals – which
welcomes over 800 key industry players to network, learn and set the tone for the year
