Vix Technology won 'Transport Supplier of the Year' at the National Transport Awards in London, for the successful rollout of contactless payment across the Stagecoach bus fleet in the UK.
Stagecoach is the UK's largest bus operator, carrying three million customers each day. The company has 19 regional bus companies across Britain and last year committed to offer contactless payments on all of its 7,200 buses as part of a national scheme, all delivered by Vix.
This project marks the first major deployment of contactless technology on Britain's buses outside of London and will benefit customers from major urban areas to rural and island communities. Since launch, more than 2.7 million contactless transactions have been processed by Vix devices, and the uptake in contactless payments has already exceeded initial targets. The system continues to grow by the day.
Vix Technology partnered with the city of Cape Town in 2013 to provide the award-winning MyCiTi ticketing solution to replace paper tickets. Vix implemented an Open Payments system that enabled the use of bank-issued contactless credit cards for travel, providing access to people to previously did not have a bank account. The solution also helped alleviate daily travel delays for Cape Town’s commuters and allowed for fares to be paid in ways other than cash.
